Republic of the Philippines or popularly known The Philippines is a country in Southeast Asia with Manila as the capital city. The Philippines is an archipelago surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, Celebes Sea and the South China Sea that is comprise of 7,107 Islands and are group in 3 sections - Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, making it one of the largest archipelago in the World.

The country was colonized by Spain in 1521 when explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived at Samar and Leyte and claimed the islands for Spain. It was then officially colonized in 1565 when Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi arrived from Mexico and formed the first European settlements in Cebu. Spain then named the Islands after King Philip II of Spain and term it Las Islas Filipinas. It was during the American period that the name Philippines become its common name.

Awesome Philippines Campaign

The Awesome Philippines campaign was put together by MTV Asia and the Department of Tourism, headed by Sec. Joseph Durano. It was executed as part of MTV Revelations; it will feature a series of video vignettes and new media in promoting the Philippines as a tourist destination to youth travellers in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea and Canada.

The Department of Tourism chose MTV Asia as their partner for the Awesome Philippines campaign because of the resonance that the MTV brand has among the youth market worldwide. The vignette will have a distinct MTV style, a fast-paced, vivid and visually engaging one. It will also feature key destinations in the Philippines that would appeal to the younger generation viewers.
